Works in progress…

Those 60 hour work weeks really eat you up. By the time you factor in sleeping, eating and the necessary fam face-time, I have a few hours a week I can squeeze a chapter or story bit out. That said, I wanted to share what I’ve been doing when not on the hamster wheel.

I continue to push out refined chapters of The Old Ways — my prequel story to Grail of Culloden, and the origin story of the antagonist. The story is entirely written, first as a Nanowrimo draft, and gradually refined into something coherent. What I post is what I’m fairly confident will make it into the final draft.

Manuscript pages form a path; visible text includes “In principio erat Verbum,” “In hic habitat libertas,” “Aetatis novae,” and “Liber Genesis.”
A winding path of illuminated manuscript pages leads through a flowering meadow toward a peaceful mountain village.

In the meantime, I keep dropping bits and pieces of origin stories for other characters as I fill out their backstories. Gall, Riasean, Larah, as well as my body shifting shadowless character (Vlad/Vig/Banoch, etc.). What I am doing is kind of backward — writing the backstory after the primary story (Grail) was written, but there you have it. Also a little wonky is my posting of chapters as I write, but that is more to kick me in the what-nots and force the issue of getting work done. Nothing like visibility forcing accountability, eh?

At some point I will get back to pumping out chapters of Spear of the Winds. Again another manuscript that’s complete, but still trying to refine and post.

If I get really ambitious I’ll finally fix and finish Jonathan of Jamesville High. I need to take a weed wacker and a chisel to that one still.

That’s all for now … toodles.
