House Un-American Activities Committee

The House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) was a U.S. House committee active during the Cold War, known for investigating alleged communist ties. Its methods and focus were criticized for silencing dissent and distracting from other issues. Notable investigations include the Hollywood Ten, Alger Hiss, and the Rosenbergs, ultimately contributing to a climate of fear and suspicion.

The Hays Code / Hollywood and Jim Crow

The Motion Picture Production Code, or the Hays Code, governed US film content from 1934 to 1968, limiting topics and dictating traditional American values. It influenced American movies, stifled creativity, and perpetuated racist stereotypes, including censoring interracial relationships. Though strides have been made, Hollywood still confronts its racist legacy and lacks full representation.
